Title
Advanced Control Method for Robust Stability of MVDC Systems - research project ONR (Office of Naval Research - Global Office, London UK)
Period
October 2011 - July 2013
Client
ONR (US Navy Office of Naval Research) - Global Office, London UK
Leader
RWTH Aachen University - Institute for Automation of Complex Power Systems
Other partners
University of Trieste – Lab. EPGC

This project is new in terms of content and ONR funding but it supports the existing ONR effort of developing the MVDC distribution on board the future all electric warship. The research program proposes a new, robust stability control for MVDC distribution, which is aimed at achieving voltage stability at every operating point of the system. The main goal of this approach is to overcome the small signal stability of existing control strategies. The proposed work has leveraged on existing notional schemes and models of the electric ship with MVDC distribution developed in ONR sponsored projects. Therefore, this project will expand the body of knowledge of the ship design community on a case study widely recognized as relevant.
